Item Description Name   Common Name: 'Purple Knight' Botanical Name: Alternanthera dentata   Size   These plants are about 12 - 15 cm in height Each plant comes in its own 50mm (2") pot   This variety can grow to about 40 - 50cm tall and 1m wide.    Description/Uses   Native to Central and South America. This frost sensitive plant is grown for its striking dark purple foliage, and can be used as a beautiful foliage contrast against other plants and flower borders. The rich colour is darkest in full sun, and makes a dramatic accent in sunny gardens. They also make an excellent hedge.   Care and Maintenance Medium water use Semi shade to full sun Medium maintenance To maintain a compact habit or to keep a formal appearance, regularly pinch out the growing tips, trim the plants throughout the growing season in summer. They should be planted in well-drained soil, watering regularly during summer. They are very heat tolerant but do not tolerate frost very well. All our plants are established in their pots and are ready to plant straight into your garden or a larger pot.   Water well each day for 2 - 3 weeks after planting. Place one handful of the feed or a small handful of slow release fertilizer around the new plant once planted, fertilize every six months for best results They prefer well drained soil.
